Rivenhall Incinerator Campaign

13th January 2018

Priti Patel MP chaired a meeting with local campaigners opposing the Rivenhall Incinerator on Friday [12 January 2018] at Spring Lodge in Witham. The meeting hall was packed full with concerned residents where Priti reiterated her opposition to the plans for the incinerator and was joined by Nick Unsworth from the local Parishes Against Incinerator campaign and their planning consultant Tony Collins. Members of the public also commented on the proposals to increase the chimney stack and the damage the incinerator would do. Priti said:

“Tonight’s meeting was a clear demonstration of the level of local opposition to these plans. Local campaigners have worked incredibly hard to put forward a strong case against this unnecessary incinerator and we must carry on campaigning hard.”

“The Rivenhall incinerator’s original panning application was approved by the then Government in March 2010. Since then a number of changes have been made and the mass burn incineration capacity increased significantly. This area has always been unsuitable for this type of facility and the impact of emissions from the site on the environment and on health is very concerning. Residents have my full support in campaigning against this development and I will continue making representations on their behalf.”

“Over 3,000 people have already signed a petition objecting to the current planning applications being considered which are necessary for the incinerator to be operational. I urge Essex County Council to consider the strong views of local people and reject this application.”
