Skills Debate

23rd January 2018

Witham MP Priti Patel has spoken during a debate in Parliament [23 January 2018] on the importance of investing in skills in the economy and involving businesses in developing skills and training programmes. Commenting during a debate on the devolution of skills in England Priti also urged the Government to review the way the Apprenticeship Levy is used to provide more flexibility so more people can benefit from training courses. Priti said:

“A modern economy needs a highly skilled workforce to be competitive and to boost productivity. The Government has invested in skills, training and apprenticeship but there is more to do to raise standards and engage with businesses.”

“We have some fantastic businesses in this part of Essex and across the County creating thousands of new jobs. Our businesses are always keen to invest in their workforce and work with education providers, schools and colleges so people can leave education with the skills to secure good jobs.”
