Rivenhall Incinerator Public Meeting

8th January 2018
Priti Patel MP, will be chairing a public meeting against the Rivenhall Incinerator, Essex.
WHEN? At 8pm on Friday 12 January, Priti Patel will lead a public meeting hosted by PAIN (Parishes Against Incinerator) concerning the impact the Rivenhall Incinerator will have on the surrounding area.
WHERE? Spring Lodge Community Centre, Powers Hall End, Witham CM8 2HE. Doors open at 7.30pm. The meeting will commence at 8pm and finish at 9.30pm.
WHO WILL BE TALKING? The panel will include Priti Patel MP, Coggeshall resident Nick Unsworth of PAIN (Parishes Against the INcinerator), and Tony Collins of Collins & Coward Planners. There will then be a question and answer session for members of the audience.
WHO CAN ATTEND? Anyone who is concerned about the impact the Rivenhall Incinerator could have on the health of local residents and their children, the environment, on local traffic and house prices. The Press and TV have also been invited to attend.
WHY NOW? This incinerator has two planning applications going before Essex County Council, possibly later this month. The applicant, Gent Fairhead & Co, is hoping to increase the proposed chimney height of the incinerator to 58metres.
Since 2010, conditions on the facility, imposed by the Secretary of State have gradually been removed, meaning the majority of the waste will now be incinerated. The increase in incineration has been granted despite clear evidence from organisations such as the Royal College of Physicians warning about the negative health effects of fine particles, such as those that will be emitted from waste burnt at the Rivenhall Incinerator.
The Rt Hon Priti Patel MP says she “stands with local residents in opposing the development of the Rivenhall Incinerator”. She added: “This incinerator is damaging to our communities and I urge decision-makers to listen to our views and refuse the forthcoming planning application.”
