Get Witham Working 2013

Priti holds ‘Get Witham Working’ event at Witham Public Hall

More than 250 jobseekers crammed into Witham Public Hall on Friday to attend the local Jobs Fair, Get Witham Working, which was also attended by the Work and Pensions Secretary, Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP, who said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed the Witham Jobs Fair on Friday. These fairs are a wonderful way for job seekers to find out more about businesses in their local area. I am always delighted to support Priti Patel, who has been an outstanding MP for Witham, and it was a pleasure to meet so many of her constituents.”
The event saw a number of prominent local and regional businesses advertising for jobs and apprenticeships. The event was organised by Priti Patel, the local MP for Witham who said:
“Witham Public Hall was absolutely bursting at the seams with all types of businesses and all kinds of jobseekers. Walking around the fair and meeting people it was clear that there is a real appetite for new, grassroots avenues into employment. So many job seekers want to be free of long term dependence on state benefits. This event was a really positive message between employees and employers that local opportunities are very much out there.”
Many businesses have hailed the success of the Jobs Fair. Denise Rossiter, Chief Executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, said:
“I am delighted that we, and several of our major members, were able to support Priti with this venture. The importance of this event in helping get people into work or start their own business was shown by the presence of the Work and Pensions Secretary, Iain Duncan Smith MP. I hope all who attended found the day of use.”
Cofunds, a large employer whose offices have recently moved to Witham, also praised the event and the opportunity for a local business to ‘raise our profile’ and meet local residents. Richard Drakeford, the local Employment Adviser at Witham Jobs Centre, said, “It was a very good Jobs Fair with an excellent turnout – we had people queuing down the road. This shows that there are people out there prepared to look for work. This was a very worthwhile event, and well worth doing again in future.”
