New homes in Stanway

21st December 2017

MP Priti Patel has visited the new Oakwood Meadow development in Ostrich Close, Stanway to see families moving into their new homes in time for Christmas. The development of 358 homes is being built by Charles Church, which is part of the Persimmon Group and a range of two, three and four bedroom properties are currently available. After meeting with Paul Standen, Managing Director for Persimmon Homes Essex, Priti said:

“Home ownership provides people with security and it was great to visit this development and see families moving into new homes in time for Christmas. We need to see more local homes being built in the right places for people to live in and I hope the new residents of Oakwood Meadow enjoy living here.”

“Housebuilding also creates local jobs and I am pleased to see the opportunities this development has provided to local people to work on this project.”

Phil Standen said:

“Both Persimmon Homes and Charles Church are committed to providing attractive and affordable homes throughout the Essex area and our plans are to deliver 2000 new homes to 2020. We currently have other sites in Colchester including The Gateway and Hampton Park as well as nearby sites at Sharpes Meadows, Heybridge and Grangewood Park, Burnham.”

“As an employer we are very keen to draw our staff from the local area and offer new employment opportunities across the business from construction to sales and all other aspects of the business.”

“We need to encourage more young people in to the construction industry and I personally talk to students at local schools and colleges about the apprenticeships and training we can offer.”

“Ms Patel expressed her interest in developing a strong skills base for the area and that is something we would fully support.”

Following the news that the latest legal challenge to try to block the creation of hundreds of new jobs at the new Tollgate Village development in Stanway had failed, Priti added:

“Stanway is a great location for people to move to and the demand for these homes shows why the area needs new facilities and shops, which Tollgate Village will provide. I am pleased that work can soon begin on Tollgate Village so that this part of my constituency can benefit from new jobs and facilities that people want.”
