Witham MP, Priti Patel, met with Mr Gary Smith, Head Teacher of the Market Field School in Colchester, to discuss plans to open a new free school in Witham.
The Chatten Free School, promoted by Priti and Mr Smith, will cater for pupils with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition and associated complex educational needs. This will provide much-needed additional local provision in Witham for pupils with special educational needs.
Following the meeting, Priti commented:
"This project is vital to ensure new and enhanced opportunities for children in Witham with special educational needs. During the 2017 General Election, the Labour Party opposed free schools and said that any investment in them is a waste of money. Under their toxic socialism, fantastic projects like this would be scrapped and children in Witham abandoned.
Needless to say, I welcome and fully support plans to open the Chatten Free School in Witham. Investment in this project will be far from a waste of money. What I have discussed today will provide an enriching, learning environment and a personalised curriculum for each individual pupil to prepare and equip them for adult life.
The Conservative's plan for children with SEN and disabilities is that they achieve their full potential at school, that they find employment and lead happy and fulfilled lives. I look forward to working with Gary on this project and delivering a top quality education for children with learning difficulties in Witham."
