Christmas Card Competition

27th October 2017

Local MP, Priti Patel, is urging all children across each community in her constituency to enter her 2017 Christmas Card Competition.

Since Priti first launched the competition in 2010, it has gone from strength to strength and is now an established local Christmas tradition for schools, pupils and young people to enter from across the Witham Parliamentary Constituency.

This year’s theme for designs is ‘Christmas Stories’ following on from a successful Get Witham Reading. Priti asks that entrants depict scenes from their favourite Christmas story, as well as provide a brief description of why it is their favourite book. The competition is open to every child of primary school age who lives or attends a primary school within the constituency.

Priti commented:

“Every year, it is a joy to judge an outstanding array of submissions from young people across the constituency – there is a tremendous amount of creative talent and skill growing up in our communities.

Last year’s winner received widespread praise for her ability and imagination and I know that this year, the competition will be tough. Nonetheless, you have to be in it to win it, so I urge all children to get creative, put colouring crayon to paper and draw me a scene from their favourite festive story.”

In order to qualify, the entrant’s submission must be no larger than A4 and children can use pens, crayons and pencils but due to the printer process, entries cannot have items attached to them like glitter or cotton. Entries must not be folded and the artist’s name, age and school should be clearly marked on the reverse of each entry as batches of entries become separated during judging. Priti will need this information to be able to contact the winner and return the artwork to the schools after the competition. Upon submitting, parents must be aware that information about their child will be included upon the reverse of the card.

Entries must be received in Priti’s Westminster office at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA, by 12 noon on Monday, 13 November 2017. The winner and runners up will be announced after Friday, 1 December 2017 and Priti will contact the winning pupil’s school. To see if your child lives within Priti’s constituency please click here.
