Urgent Care Review

11th January 2017

Witham MP, Priti Patel, has responded to the Urgent Care Review, hosted by North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, making the case for more effective use of the Walk-In Centre, Colchester. The plans North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group are consulting on could see the future role of the Walk-In Centre diminished with little or no services being run from it at all. Priti commented:

“The Walk-In Centre in Colchester is highly regarded by patients and the community it serves, who are very disappointed with the threat from NEECCG to close this facility. The facility treats people who have minor injuries and illnesses without appointment, helping to relieve the pressures on the Hospital’s already stretched A&E Department.

My constituents and Patient Participation Groups tell me that it is becoming increasingly difficult to book an appointment to see a GP. The Hospital is telling me that as much as 30% of patients presenting themselves to A&E could be seen by a GP or a nurse practitioner.

It would be a shame for this facility to close when the capacity could be used much more wisely by fully integrating health and social care services, therefore improving patient pathways. I strongly encourage all those who live in the community and use these services to contact the CCG with their views.”
