Priti Patel MP, the Member of Parliament for Witham, is delighted to announce that Alia Hughman from St. Andrew’s School in Hatfield Peverel is the winner of her 2012 Christmas Card Competition. Priti was delighted to receive a record number of entries from 16 local primary schools from across her constituency.
Priti was joined by the Mayors of Witham (Councillor Michael Lager), Colchester (Councillor Christopher Arnold) and Maldon (Councillor David Williams) – all of whom commented on how impressed they were with the standard of this year’s entries.
She has recently sent all schools who took part in the competition a certificate of participation and prizes to the six runners-up. Priti will be visiting St. Andrew’s School on the last day of term with a special gift for Alia and to present her with a copy of the completed card featuring her design. She has also invited Alia and her family for tea at the Palace of Westminster.
Priti said: “I was overjoyed by the exceptional quality of designs this year and deciding on a winner was extremely difficult, with many excellent designs to choose from. I look forward to sending my cards this year featuring Alia’s wonderful design. All of the schools and pupils who entered should be very proud of their designs and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of their pupils, staff, governors and parents my very best wishes for the festive season and for 2013”.
Mr. Chris James, the Head Teacher of St. Andrew’s Junior School in Hatfield Peverel said: “We are delighted that Alia won Priti’s Christmas Card Competition and she was proud to receive her certificate in assembly. We look forward to Priti presenting her with her prize on the last day of term”.
The winner, Alia Hughman, who is nine years of age, said: “I am really excited to have won and I can’t wait to go to the Houses of Parliament!”
