MPs fight to save Marks Tey station’s coffee vendor

Local MPs Priti Patel (Witham) and Bernard Jenkin (Harwich and North Essex) will be at Marks Tey railway station from 8am on Friday (16 July) to show their support for local coffee vendor Nigel Clark, whose business is under threat following proposed changes to the station from National Express. Commuters from both Ms Patel and Mr Jenkin’s constituencies have been served their morning coffees by Mr Clark for the last ten years but changes planned by National Express could force Mr Clark to close his business.

Ms Patel and Mr Jenkin will be meeting with Mr Clark and local commuters as well as receiving from Mr Clark a petition from his customers supporting him. Ms Patel said:

“The fight to save Nigel’s business has begun. Large numbers of commuters have been in touch to praise the service from Nigel and I hope that National Express will now realise the strong support he has and come to a mutually beneficial arrangement with him.”

Mr Jenkin said:

“A great many constituents have been in touch with me praising Nigel’s service. I very much hope that National Express and he will be able to find a way to ensure he can carry on his service for years to come.”
