GCSE Results

24th August 2017

Witham MP, Priti Patel, has welcomed the GCSE results and congratulated pupils from across her constituency who are receiving grades today (24 August 2017). From May until the end of June, pupils in secondary schools sat their GCSE exams after spending, on average, two years or more working towards this achievement.

Priti was pleased to see that pupils and schools across the constituency performed well with the Government's new gold-standard GCSEs. Honywood Community Science School and Maltings Academy performed highly with 70% and 68% of pupils respectively achieving A*-C in English and Maths. New Rickstones Academy performed better than ever. Priti said:

"Pupils across the constituency have worked incredibly hard to achieve great GCSE results this year. Parents will be proud of the hard work their child has put into their learning. There have been some fantastic performances and pupils should be very pleased with the results they have received.

Pupils and parents will also be grateful to our schools and teachers for the support they have given to those studying for their GCSEs.

I am pleased that in recent years, standards in schools are improving and these results celebrate the hard work of pupils and teachers. I congratulate all students on their success and wish them all very best as they progress to the next stage in their education, or enter the world of work."

Mr Simon Mason, Head Teacher of Honywood Community Science School, said:

"Our analysis suggests that no cohort in the school's history has left us enjoying greater academic success or being better prepared for the challenges to come.

We are so proud of the immense effort all our youngsters put into their studies this year. They have learned so much about their subjects, but also about themselves as they have pushed themselves to overcome the challenges they faced. They leave our school as confident and characterful young people who will never shirk a challenge and will make a great contribution to our country in the years ahead. We could not be more delighted with them."

Mr Miles Bacon, Head Teacher of Thurstable School, commented:

"I am delighted for our students that their efforts have brought them the rewards they deserved, and am incredibly grateful to the staff who taught and guided them with such skill and tireless commitment, and to the parents who have supported their children so very well."
