Article for Village Voice

It is widely known that businesses in Essex are leading Britain’s economic resurgence. The Prime Minister confirmed this in June 2014 when he rose in the House of Commons to praise Essex businesses by saying, “where Essex leads the rest of the country follows”. Businesses in Essex have thrived through the global economic downturn, and the Prime Minister is right to commend these businesses for their ongoing success in supporting economic growth, creating new jobs, and boosting British exports abroad.
Our collective efforts can go a long way in contributing to successful local economic growth. As the towns and villages in the Witham constituency are such tremendous places to live and work, I will continue collaborating with local councils, entrepreneurs and business groups – including through the Essex International Exports Forum and the Business Improvement District – to help attract even more investment, jobs and talent to our region.
While growth in the Witham constituency is steady and unemployment remains relatively low, I want to ensure that people seeking work opportunities are able to see the vast number of exciting opportunities available to them. Last year I hosted the Witham Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair that brought together hundreds of local jobseekers with over 35 local, regional and national businesses and organisations. To build on the success of that event, I am pleased to announce that I will be hosting this year’s Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair on the 10th of October 2014 at the Witham Public Hall. The event is free to attend, doors are open from 10:30am to 2:30pm, and all jobseekers are encouraged to participate to meet employers and learn about the vacancies that could kick-start a fantastic career.
I look forward to engaging with local jobseekers at the Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, and I am keen as always to meet the representatives of Essex’s impressive businesses that are serving as a model for the rest of Britain to follow. If you have any queries about the upcoming Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, please do not hesitate to get in touch at [email protected], on 020 7219 3528 or at House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
